Episode #36 notes

In this episode, I am excited to have Tomek Rudzki, co-founder of Ziptie.dev and Head of R&D at Onely.com, join me for an insightful discussion about his journey in SEO, technical SEO, crawling, indexing, and more!

In this episode, Tomek Rudzki, an SEO expert, discusses his journey into the world of SEO, starting with an internship at Excel Media and eventually finding a job at Onely, a well-known technical SEO agency.

He talks about the challenges he faced while learning the ropes of SEO, such as server log analysis, which helped him learn the field quickly.

At Onely, Tomek works on various aspects of SEO, such as international SEO, JavaScript SEO, and indexing SEO. He provides several examples of JavaScript SEO problems, including the case of a popular WordPress plugin, discuss.com, which experienced a 99% visibility drop due to serving Googlebot with an empty version of its content.

Tomek also talks about the complexities of indexing SEO, including how websites compete for Google’s crawl budget, and how JavaScript can add more complexity to the process. He explains that Google prioritizes crawling popular and high-quality pages, while pages that don’t meet these criteria may end up at the end of the crawling queue.

Tomek also touches upon the role of Google Search Console in understanding reasons for a page not being indexed, such as “Crawl Currently Not Indexed” or “Discovered Currently Not Indexed.”
